You have to flush the filter with 3 gallons of water at install before you take your first drink. My fridge (model WRX988SIBM03) deducts these "primed" gallons from the filter capacity/used percentage. I think after the initial flush I saw it was at 97%. It cuts into the replacement timer, making it sooner I need to replace it. The water is a little cloudy after the initial flush but goes away after a few seconds. I don't get a milky color as some report. I don't have an issue with taste. We are fortunate to live in a city with great tasting and clean water so if I don't replace the filter once the indicator light comes on, not a big deal. No one is going to die. No issue with water pressure, streaming, spitting, etc. Been using these filters for almost 2 years now. 4 stars because they are expensive.

This filter does cost more, but it fits and works. I bought a 3 pack on eBay for $45. Great deal? Nope. The filters look identical and are packaged identically to the real product, except for a sticker placed over the made in America printing. I tried all three and all three wouldn't seal because they wouldn't twist on far enough! They also had unwashed carbon and turned the water black. I tried to flush the one that slightly leaked, but even after about 3 gallons, the water was still black. I put the old filter back in and everything was fine. I ordered this one from Clatterans, installed it with no leaking and it does just as it should be. I did get a refund from the eBay merchant, but they didn't want their filters back.

My water tastes and looks better now. Perfect for my Whirlpool refrigerator. Easy to change and works great. Just a bit pricey.

I read a lot of reviews about this before buying it and was a little concerned. It was the cheapest I could find though so I went with it. I flushed it out as the instructions stated and the water has been great. I'm not sure if the fridge makes new noises or they're just noises that I didn't notice before. I've had this in for about 4 months now and plan to purchase again when need be.

Perfect fit replacement for the filter UKF8001. Water flow is much better. Wow! Very glad I did. The new filter replacement also removes more contaminants than my old one.
