we have nasty highly chlorinated water, and most filters will leave you with water that is on the acidic end of the scale. this Whirlpool 4396841 filter will provide you with water on the normal end of the alkaline scale, which is what we like. hope this helps you

The water coming through this filter tastes just as clean and fresh as through the original GE filter, at a fraction of the cost. Only the package has a little flaw.

This is the best water filter we have found so far. We tried others but they can't compare to this one. This Kenmore 9930 replacement filter costs less yet fit my fridge very well!

Works great as a replacement for Whirlpool 4396841 which was no longer available. So far I didn't have any trouble with the taste. My initial reaction is the taste is better compared to the PUR. I'll update if anything changes.
